Warner Bros. insiders are quietly rooting against their own sale and the market shrugs
Variety dropped a strange one Monday evening: some Warner Bros. executives are privately hoping the state attorneys general suing to block the Paramount deal actually win. Their own company's sale. They want it dead.
Kalshi didn't flinch. The market on Paramount closing the takeover before July 2027 sits at 70%, unchanged on the day. The sister question on a 2026 close is priced at just 22%.
That gap is the whole story. The crowd isn't betting the deal sails through; it's betting the deal drags. Antitrust suits, internal sabotage, a bruising year of hearings, and then a close sometime in the back half of 2027. Executives rooting against their own merger isn't a threat to the outcome anymore. It's part of the timeline the market already expects.
What traders are saying, in plain English: this gets done, but ugly, and late. The clean 2026 version is off the table. The messy 2027 version is the base case.
Watch the state AGs' next filing. That's the calendar the 70% is built on.
