Trump wires ten million into a Texas Senate seat that shouldn't be close
The Hill posted it yesterday evening: Trump is dropping $10 million into Ken Paxton's Texas Senate primary. Hours later, Kalshi's market on Republicans holding the Texas Senate seat is sitting at 52%, down a point on the day, on nearly $6M of lifetime volume.
That number is the story. Texas hasn't sent a Democrat to the Senate since the 1980s. A market pricing a statewide Republican race as a functional coin flip is not a market that has forgotten the state's lean. It's a market that has read Paxton's résumé and decided the lean doesn't cover it.
Which is exactly why the $10 million is moving now, and why it's moving into the primary rather than the general. The read from the crowd is that a Paxton nomination turns a safe seat into a genuine contest, and the president is spending real money to shape who Republicans put on the ballot. A separate Hill piece last week quoted Karl Rove saying time is running out for Paxton. The price agrees.
Watch the March primary. If Paxton survives it, the 52% is the ceiling, not the floor.

Analysis of the Day
New Orleans vs Detroit Pro Football game: Detroit wins? Resolves in 1 week · $78K lifetime volume | DETROIT 74% |
Detroit opens as a 7-point home favorite at Ford Field with DraftKings implying a 71% win probability, a substantial line reflecting the Lions' structural edge at home in a Week 1 matchup. New Orleans is missing Bryan Bresee on the defensive line, which could open running lanes, while Detroit's injury list includes safety Brian Branch and tight end Tyler Conklin, meaningful absences but not ones that shift the game's fundamental balance. A 7-point spread in the NFL is a decisive statement of team quality, and home-field advantage at Ford Field reinforces Detroit's position as a clear favorite to cover the win outcome.
