Haley Stevens, who lost the Michigan Democratic Senate primary, endorsed Republican Mike Rogers last night, per Axios. The headline is the kind of thing that should rattle a race one day before polls open. Kalshi's market on a Republican win moved 2pp, to 22%.
That's the whole story, and it's the interesting part. More than 3 million contracts changed hands in the last day on this question, so it's not that nobody noticed. Bettors noticed, chewed on it, and decided it doesn't matter. The Democrat is still sitting around 78 to 80% to hold the seat.
The reason, if you squint at the polling the crowd is reading, is that the public numbers haven't budged either. El-Sayed is up roughly five points in the RealClearPolling average and double digits in the latest NYT/Siena. An intra-party endorsement from a losing primary candidate doesn't visibly move those lines, and the market is telling you the same thing in a different language.
Michigan votes tomorrow. If Rogers overperforms his polls, the shrug was wrong; if he doesn't, the crowd just called a late-breaking headline exactly right.
