The bond market is quietly blowing out and Polymarket just called it

Bloomberg's headline yesterday evening: "Treasury Rout Threatens EM Carry Trade as Citi Pulls Back." Inside a few hours, Polymarket's market on whether the 10-year Treasury yield hits 5.2% before 2027 surged +60pp to 90%. A week ago the crowd treated that level as a tail scenario. Now it's being called near-certain.

The move wasn't waiting for the Bloomberg story. Traders were watching the yield curve steepen for days (the 10-2 spread ticked up again yesterday) and one desk pulling back from emerging-market carry was enough to break the dam. The rout was already underway. The headline just gave the crowd permission to price it as inevitable.

What a 5.2% ten-year actually means for a normal person: 30-year mortgages north of 8%, corporate refinancing getting ugly, and every equity valuation model built on cheaper money getting rewritten heading into Q4 earnings. Polymarket is saying that world is now the base case, not the risk case.

Watch Treasury's daily yield curve print next week. If the 10-year keeps climbing toward 5%, the 90% becomes 99% fast.

Analysis of the Day

Will the highest temperature in New York City be between 62-63°F on September 26?
Resolves tomorrow · $0 lifetime volume
NO
34%
The September 26 ensemble median high sits at 66.8°F with a p10 of 63.1°F and a p25 of 64.5°F, the 62-63°F window falls below the p10, meaning fewer than 10% of the 31-member ensemble projects a high that low. The point forecast of 64°F is itself already above the target band, and the spread (p10-p90 of 5.8°F) is tight enough that a 3-4°F undershoot to land in 62-63°F is a tail outcome. With the forecast anchored well above the band and only a narrow slice of ensemble probability reaching it, this resolves YES only in a meaningful cold-side miss.
