Michigan's Senate market has decided and the press hasn't noticed

NPR this morning: "Michigan's Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed campaigns in GOP stronghold." The Kalshi market on Democrats holding the Michigan Senate seat sits at 68%, unchanged on the day but with nearly 91,000 contracts moving in the last 24 hours. Lifetime volume is past 3.2 million contracts. The crowd made up its mind a while ago.

What makes this interesting is the candidate. El-Sayed is a progressive Muslim Democrat running for the open seat Gary Peters is vacating, the kind of profile national Democrats spent the summer worrying about. Then a Rasmussen poll, from a firm that leans right, dropped yesterday showing him up 46 to 44 over Mike Rogers. A Mitchell poll earlier this month had him up four. An Emerson survey last month said the same.

Three polls from three different houses, all pointing one way, and a prediction market pricing a comfortable favorite. Yet the national coverage still frames this race as a nervous toss-up. The market isn't nervous.

Two weeks to Nov. 3. Watch whether the public polling average catches up to where Kalshi already is, or whether the market has to come back down to meet it.

58%
Only a fraction of the opening day was bowled at St George's Park after persistent rain washed out most of play, and day two's start was also delayed significantly, per Wisden and Yahoo. The jump reflects shrinking overs available to force a result in the second Test, with Australia already up in the series. Sustained clear weather and quick wickets would pull this lower; more washouts push it higher.
