Tehran says the Oman deal is close and the market hears the opposite

Bloomberg's overnight print: "Iran Shakes Up Security Team Claiming Oman Deal 'Close.'" On Polymarket, the odds of an Iran-Oman Hormuz agreement by Friday fell 26 points to 53% in a matter of hours. Two days ago this was close to a lock. Now it's a coin flip.

The headline reads bullish. Iran is publicly saying a deal is near. But the same sentence tells you Tehran is reshuffling the people running the talks with five days on the clock. The crowd is reading the second half of that sentence, not the first.

Replacing your negotiators in the final stretch is not what confidence looks like. It's what a broken process looks like, or a political fight inside the government about what the deal should even say. The market is treating the personnel move as the real news and the "close" language as spin.

August 15 is the deadline. Watch for a joint announcement from Muscat and Tehran in the next 72 hours. If the new security team goes quiet instead, the 53% has further to fall before Friday night.

Analysis of the Day

US x Iran Effective Ceasfire by August 14?
Resolves in 4 days · $1.3M lifetime volume
NO
92%
The resolution criterion requires a continuous 14-day window with no qualifying US military action against Iran beginning before Aug 14, meaning the clock must have already started or must start imminently to complete by the deadline. With only 4 days remaining until resolution and the strict 14-day continuous window required, any qualifying US strike in the recent past would already disqualify the current window, making YES resolution extremely difficult unless no action has occurred for the past ~10+ days.
