The Texas Senate market is quietly pricing in a Democratic upset
"Senate control hinges on unwanted nominees," per Axios this morning. Kalshi now gives Republicans a 34% chance of winning the Texas Senate race, with 1.7M contracts changing hands in the last day on a market that's cleared 24M contracts lifetime.
Texas hasn't elected a Democrat statewide in a generation. The market is now saying it's roughly two-to-one against Ken Paxton holding the seat, and the move didn't happen on one headline. Three straight polls, Marist, the University of Houston, and Emerson, have shown Paxton trailing James Talarico, all inside the margin of error.
The polls alone wouldn't move a market this far. What's underneath is the donor behavior: Republican-aligned money that backed Paxton in the primary is publicly peeling off toward Talarico. Traders read defections differently than polls. A voter can change their mind on Tuesday. A six-figure donor switching sides two weeks out is pricing in a loss.
Early voting is already underway. Watch whether the Republican side of this market gets a 30% handle before Election Day.
