Texas is pricing like a swing state and nobody is quite ready to say it out loud
"Musk bankrolls PAC spending big on Paxton in Texas," per The Hill last night. Kalshi has Republicans holding the Texas Senate seat at 38%, barely moved on the day but down from near-lock territory earlier this year. Volume is heavy: 743,288 contracts in the last 24 hours on a market that's cleared over 18 million lifetime.
The Musk-funded PAC isn't a general-election move. It's primary spending, aimed at propping up the Republican nominee inside his own party. You don't spend heavy on a primary you're comfortable with.
The polling backs the market up. A Marist survey from last week has the Democrat ahead by two among likely voters, inside the margin. But the same poll has 53% of Texas likely voters saying they expect the Republican to win anyway. That gap, between what voters want and what they expect, is exactly what the market is adjudicating.
Texas hasn't sent a Democrat to the Senate in a generation. Watch whether the Kalshi number cracks below 35% once primary ad spending actually hits airwaves.
