The midterm market quietly rewrites itself around split government
A few months ago, holding both chambers was a live scenario on Polymarket's 2026 Balance of Power market. This morning it's a tail. The leg where Republicans keep the Senate AND the House has dropped 42 points to 6%, on nearly half a million dollars of 24-hour volume.
The path there wasn't a single shock. It was a slow bleed across the summer, then a sharper leg down into the fall as the one-year-out window came into view. Each repricing shaved a few points off the trifecta leg and pushed weight toward the split-chamber outcomes.
What the crowd is saying, in plain English: a unified Republican government after next November is no longer the base case. It's being treated as roughly a 1-in-16 outcome. The money leaving this leg has to land somewhere, and the natural home is the split-government legs where one chamber flips and the other holds.
With the midterms still a year out, this is belief in motion, not a verdict. Watch which of the mixed-control legs absorbs the flow this week. That's where the new base case is forming.
